What are the origins of the MWSF?

Founded in 2001 by Mr Ahmed Versi, editor of the Muslim News, the overarching aim of MWSF is to enable Muslim women to participate in a variety of sports without compromising their Islamic values. The coverage, facilitation and awareness for Muslim women's sport is virtually non-existent and there are few role models for Muslim women to follow..... hence the formation of the  Muslim Women's Sport Foundation!

We are also the official UK body to the International Women’s Islamic Games providing Muslim Women with a player pathway to higher competition for those with the ambition to represent Britain!

How is the MWSF organised?

The MWSF is a single not-for-profit organisation based in London. We are run by a group of dedicated volunteers of diverse experience and backgrounds, with a passion for both sport and fulfilling the aims of the Foundation.

What is the International Women’s Islamic Games?

The International Women’s Islamic Games is a prestigious sporting event that takes place once every 4 years. Like the Olympics, the Games brings together athletes from around the world to compete in high level competition.

The most defining characteristic of the Games is that it incorporates Islamic principles. The most prominent being female only environments, allowing women to compete freely showcasing their abilities in the greatest of all places, an international arena!

How can I get involved?

Easy! You can either get involved by playing, volunteering or both.

The MWSF currently offers professional training in Futsal (5-a-side football), Basketball & Fitness in preparation for the next Games in 2009. Follow the training sessions link above for more details.

If you are interested in volunteering please email info@mwsf.org.uk

What about those who play other sports?

For those of you who train in sports other than those above, don’t fear! Due to financial constraints we are limited to what we can offer, however there is still a chance you could take part in the Games.

Please email info@mwsf.org.uk for information.

How is the MWSF supported?

The MWSF is primarily funded by private donations and organisations such as the Football Foundation, Sport Relief and the DCD Group.

We also raise money through membership to the Foundation, which is a small fee of £6 per month giving members access to all our training sessions and our monthly newsletter! For further information on becoming a member please click here.

We are currently seeking further support & sponsorship for our training sessions and future projects. For more information please email our funding officer Mrs Reem El-Amir on funding@mwsf.org.uk
