MWSF Ravens V Brunel

Wed, 9th June, 2010 - Posted by Naz | (0) Comment

Saturday April 24th, MWSF Cobras took on Brunel University for the second time. A slow start for the Cobra’s saw them go down 1-0 within seconds of kick off. Taking a while to get their feet, the team were down 3-0 before a rebounded strike by Ayesha Abdeen started off their tally. Brunel continued to attack and a noticeably unsteady Cobra’s conceded a further five times, however strikes by Sana Tirmizi and Rimla Akhtar along with a second goal by Ayesha led the Cobra’s into half time with 4 goals to their name.

The second half saw a new more confident Cobra’s enter the pitch. Holding their formation well in defence with 100% effort from each player the attack of Brunel was slowed down. More importantly the counterattacking by the Cobra’s, whilst not always perfect, showed the potential of the team. A few moments of magic, words of wisdom from coach Ciara Allan, and three more goals from Ayesha Abdeen helped the Cobra’s reach a goal tally of 7. The highest ever achieved by the team! Occasional lapses in concentration enabled Brunel to add to their goal tally with the final score ending 13-7 to Brunel, however the Cobra’s should stand tall and be proud of their achievement.

COBRAS V BRUNEL UNI

Mon, 1st February, 2010 - Posted by Naz | (0) Comment

On Saturday 23rd January, the newly named MWSF Cobras played their debut match against Brunel University since reforming in October 2009. For many team members this was their first experience of futsal in all its glory!

A difficult match for the Cobras, the team trailed the force of Brunel for most of the game. Taking a while to find their feet in the first half, the team was down 3-0 before a strike from Sana Tirmizi raised cheers of joy and excitement from the bench. With increased confidence, optimism and a series of outstanding saves from goalkeeper, Mahdieh Pourali, the Cobras fought on. Two goals from Ayesha Abdeen in the second half increased the tally for the MWSF to three, but the growing might of Brunel was too much for the inexperienced side. With heads held high the match ended 13-3 to Brunel. Many a lesson was learnt with MWSF Cobras coach, Ciara Allan commenting “As a first game I think there’s a lot we can learn from our opponents, it should be seen as a learning curve and not a loss. The finally newly named squad can and hopefully will, continue to train and together we will work towards increasing our goal tally in future games.”

The Cobras next game is on February 20th against the Soul Sisters at Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, watch this space for more info!

Team MWSF

The Muslim Women’s Sport Foundation organised their first tournament of the year which was kindly hosted by Elite Youth at the Osmani Youth Centre sports hall in east London. MWSF Ravens played alongside Elite Youth, Hayaa Fitness and Enfield Phoenix. Enfield Phoenix were the team to beat and played a tough game finishing first. In second place was our host Elite Youth who gave Enfield a good run and gave us an exciting final. In third place were our very own Ravens who played four solid games and improved in skill as well as confidence over the three games. In fourth place was a late entry Hayaa Fitness who made some of the best shots of the tournament!

If you want to play in the next tournament, come on down to training!!! Check out the gallery for more pictures.
